Inspired by the 1948 marquee, the Lincoln logo was created by Ted Perry of Shive Design. Shive rhymes with hive — it’s a New Orleans slang word that means cool, tight or fly. (Perry grew up in New Orleans, so he heard that word a lot in the ‘90s. The rest of the world learned it from “Still Fly” by the hip-hop duo Big Tymers, although non-NOLA natives usually misheard it as sharp or suave.) In addition to his work as a designer, Perry is a designer, collector and salvage enthusiast. You can see more of his work at ShiveDesign.com.
